We have an assignment where we have to use recycled materials to make a container. I decided to make a dress out of paper bags because technically a dress contains the torso for a women.
Here's some notes on my plan for the dress made out of recyclable bags from Whole Foods and Trader Joes. It'll probably close in the back with a clasp like cereal boxes have. And here's a progress shot. More to come when I'm finally done. There's only half a skirt to go.
First there was the one from the worksheet made in class:
The Small Rhombicuboctahedron
26
faces:(8
equilateral triangles & 18 squares)
24
vertices
48
edges
And then there my pride and joy that I spent an all nighter on! We were suppose to make another Archimedean Solid, but with a design that would work with it's shape. On the bottom is the net I used to make the shape, from korthasaltes.com. On the right is a mid progress shot. Drawing the net out took more time because I miscalculated the first time I started it. To make the triangles and the pentagons I needed two separate compasses. On the net the radius of the pentagon is a different size to it's side, which is what determines the size for the triangle.
Our first assignment was to create two different versions of the same plan. Using Bristol board, no higher than 2", and on a 4"x4" surface. They must be completely white, and our craft must be excellent. I created the one circled by a red line.
